ASC Southwest Terms and Conditions of Membership
Our Safety Policy
We ask you to take your own safety, and the safety of others, very seriously.
If you consider an event or activity too challenging for you, please do not take part. Our activities are designed to be fun and exciting, so choose the events that are right for you.
When taking part in adventurous activities or any activity arranged or offered by ASC Southwest, please note that we all take part as responsible adults. We must be aware of our
own limitations and safety, and also the safety of others.
Participants need to recognise that adventurous activities are inherently risky, and you may be exposed to potentially life-threatening situations. You should only get involved if you are personally prepared to accept these risks.
We seek to maintain a high standard of safety and leadership at all of our events, and adventurous activities will only take place under the expert eye of accredited centres and
individuals, who take your personal safety very seriously.
Wearing the right gear.
We take our own safety, and the safety of our members, seriously. You will therefore note that you will be asked to bring certain items of kit/clothing with you to specific events. Please check the detail for each event for instructions.
In addition to kit for specific events, you will always be required to bring the following items with you on any of our walking or mountaineering events:
- Good quality walking boots
- Waterproof trousers and jacket
- Hat & gloves (in cold weather)
- Drinking water
We have a strictly NO JEANS OR TRAINING SHOES policy for all walking events. You will find that in wearing such items you will find yourself observing, and not participating!
Walk leaders will carry a first aid kit and mobile phone for emergencies, plus GPS and bivvie tent where appropriate.
One day events:
Providing you give us more than four days notice (includes weekends and bank holidays) you will receive a full refund as a Credit Note, except where non-refundable expense has
been incurred on your behalf. Credit Notes are valid for 12 months and only redeemable against events.
These are non-refundable unless we can resell your place, as tickets will have already been purchased.
Providing you give us more than seven days notice (includes weekends and bank holidays) you will receive a full refund as a Credit Note, except where non-refundable expense has been incurred on your behalf. Credit Notes are valid for 12 months and only redeemable against events.
Where cancellation is received outside the cancellation period prior to an event, you will lose all monies paid (and also be liable for any balance) unless we can replace you. If you simply do not turn up for an event without contacting us you will automatically forfeit any monies paid, and will be liable for any balance.
Should ASC Cancel an event.....
Should ASC cancel any event you will be refunded directly back by the payment method used. Our policy is that wherever possible we will always issue a refund.
ASC reserves the right at all times to expel Members or to prevent for any reason any Member from participating in any Event or from renewing Membership.
Members shall conduct themselves when participating in all Events in a sensible, safe and social manner towards all other members and towards the General Public and towards all those persons firms or companies providing Members with instruction or guidance in connection with the participation by Members in Events. Any complaints made to ASC in respect of the behaviour of Members will be dealt with pursuant to the terms of the paragraph above.
In view of the potentially dangerous nature of certain events ASC ensures that activity providers have adequate insurance cover for these activities. In addition, members may arrange their own accident insurance through Companies of their own choice to suit their personal circumstances. It is deemed by ASC that members have full responsibility for arranging, (or not as the case may be) their own Accident Insurance cover.
Notwithstanding that ASC will at all times use its best endeavours to eliminate or minimise the risk involved in participating in the events, members shall take and bear all risks involved in participating in the events,
For certain events Insurance cover will be (because of the nature of an Event) unavailable or unobtainable either by ASC or by Members and in such cases Members assume the risk involved in participating in such Events. Participation by Members in such Events is entirely at the Members own risk and all such participating members may at the discretion of ASC and before taking part in the Event concerned be required by ASC to sign a form of special disclaimer in respect of the liability of ASC for accident or injury to such Members Any such Member refusing to sign such disclaimer will be prevented (so far as such prevention is lawful) from participating in the Event concerned. In such circumstances a Member prevented from participating in an Event may not be entitled to any refund of bookings fees paid.
Members subscriptions will be as specified on the ASC Membership forms. Members renewing membership shall do so within 7 days after membership expiry, ie monthly, quarterly, or annually. Where any member fails to pay the full membership subscription upon any renewal within such period membership is cancelled as aforesaid.
Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome on ASC hikes, unless specified for specific events. We expect you to clean up any fouling in an appropriate way. Farm animals and wildlife are abundant on our walks, and we expect owners to respect our policy for keeping dogs on leads, for consideration of others, animals and farmers.
Children and young people under the age of 18 need to be accompanied by a responsible adult on activities that are deemed suitable for children.
Leave only footprints
We insist on the country code of closing gates behind us, taking our litter home with us, and treating the environment we walk through with respect at all times.
ASC reserves the right to alter these Terms and Conditions without prior notice to existing Members notwithstanding that existing Members will be provided with copies of any such
alterations within days of the date of the same.
ASC does not exclude liability for death or personal injury to Members or their Guests caused by the negligence of ASC or its employees or Agents (but not sub-contractors) and accordingly ASC does not exclude any liability of ASC pursuant to the Unfair Contract Terms Act 1977.
These Terms and Conditions shall be governed and construed in accordance with English Law.
